Eye Care

We Put the 'Care' into Eye Care

Dean Samarkovski Optometrist offers comprehensive eye examinations for all ages from 6 months and upwards. Our examinations are conducted in a welcoming and friendly environment that allows us to focus our attention on your individual needs.

To ensure your eyes are examined comprehensively, all appointments are scheduled  2-3 times longer in duration compared to corporate optometrists. Furthermore, the entire testing process is performed from start to completion by Dean, so you can be assured you are getting the best advice during the examination.

The extra time allocated for appointments also ensures  there is time to discuss your eye health findings, along with suggestions for treatment or lifestyle modifications. This time may also be useful for discussing any frame and lens questions that may arise.

'It is my aim that you never feel rushed during your eye examination'

Dry Eye

Dry eye is a complex disease of the tears and ocular surface and can affect about one in five adults.  Dry eye can occur when you don’t produce enough tears to lubricate the eye, or when the tears evaporate too quickly leaving the eye feeling dry. Our practice has the necessary tools to accurately diagnose the cause of your dry eye, and recommend appropriate treatments, such as eye drops, prescription anti-inflammatories, BlephEx and RexonEye.

Myopia Control

Myopia (short-sightedness) is a common cause of vision loss, with uncorrected myopia being the leading cause of vision impairment across the world. Unfortunately, high myopia is one of the leading causes of legal blindness because of complications associated with excessively elongated eyes, such as myopic macular degeneration, cataract, retinal detachment and glaucoma. Myopia control is the technique of slowing the progression of myopia in children using myopia preventative glasses, contact lenses, or eye drops.

Ortho-k, also known as orthokeratology, is a treatment which involves wearing custom made contact lenses overnight. These lenses gently reshape the cornea (the clear cap at the front of the eye), restoring normal eyesight during the day without the need to wear additional glasses or contact lenses. An important benefit of Ortho-k is that it slows down the progression of myopia in young children. This is important for minimising the risks of future eye health problems in the future years. Our practice supplies only custom made Orthokeratology lenses to the exact specifications that match you or your child’s cornea.

Contact Lenses

Have you ever considered contact lenses? Although frames can be very cool and trendy, sometimes they can get in the way of sporting or lifestyle activities.  Contact lenses provide a comfortable and clear view of the world and come in a wide range of powers to suit most people. Dean Samarkovski Optometrist has over twenty years experience in fitting contact lenses to patients from the age of 8 and above

Children's Vision

Approximately 1 in 4 children have an undetected vision disorder. As poor vision can effect a child’s development and learning, it is vital that a thorough eye examination be performed prior to commencing school. This practice ensures all children’s examinations are conducted in a friendly and caring manner.

Anterior blepharitis is an inflammatory condition of the eye lid margin caused by an over population of naturally occurring organisms at the lid edge. This condition may cause irritable, red eyes with swelling of the lid margins. Our practice can accurately diagnose blepharitis and provide the optimal advice for treatment to return your eyes back to a healthy state.

Glaucoma is a condition that causes damage to the optic nerve, a structure that connects the eye to the brain. If glaucoma is left untreated, then irreversible damage occurs at the optic nerve resulting in permanent loss of vision. The good news is that glaucoma is treatable, both with medicines and surgery.

Macular Degeneration

Macular degeneration is a degenerative condition that effects the central part of the retina known as the macula. There are two types of macular degeneration, dry and wet, and it is important that these are accurately diagnosed as the wet type may lead to more severe vision loss if treatment is postponed.

Diabetes retinopathy is a condition that can damage the retina within the eye, leading to potentially blindness. It is vital to have regular eye examinations to detect the early signs of the disease as early treatment can prevent blindness.
