We believe in supporting our local community. We are in a fortunate position of being able to contribute to our local community in a number of ways. Whether it be by providing advice, replacing lost spectacle screws and re-adjusting and cleaning spectacles free of charge, or collecting donated money for eye sight charities we strongly believe in providing assistance where possible.
We participate in the Spectacle Supply Scheme (SSS) providing eligible concession card holders with a pair of basic prescription spectacles, once every two years. More information can be requested by phoning SSS on 07 3136 3696.
We continue our project of collecting used spectacles on behalf of the Lions Club for redistribution to people in need throughout the world. The Lions Club individually cleans, sorts and measures the prescription of all donated glasses by hand. Since the inception of the Lions Recycle for Sight program in Australia, 2.5 million pairs of glasses have found grateful recipients in various countries within Africa, Europe, the Middle East, India, Asia and the South Pacific. Please feel free to drop in any no longer required spectacles at this practice to help support this fantastic project.
WE CREATE AWARENESS
Macular Degeneration Awareness Campaign Macular Disease Foundation Australia is committed to reducing the incidence and impact of macular disease in Australia through education and awareness programs, research, and the provision of support services. We had the great pleasure of the Federal Member of Ryan, Hon. Jane Prentice MP visit this practice during Macular Degeneration Week 2014, helping raise awareness of the importance of having regular eye examinations.
Raising Awareness of UV Protection for Childrens Eyes We strongly believe all children and adults should wear sunglasses with all outdoor activities to reduce the impact of damaging UV rays. Typically, the majority of sun damage occurs by 18 years of age, so we particularly encourage parents to have their children wear sunglasses from a young age. National Sunnies Day is a great reminder of this important health message.
Raising Awareness of Seniors Entitlements We were pleased to have Channel 9 visit the practice with a news story promoting the benefits of free governement assistance for seniors, including free spectacles, hearing aids, mobility aids and home improvements. We believe by providing this free service for spectacles we are giving a little back to the community.
